Hope everyone has had a happy Christmas and hope no one was on Santa's naughty list!
Looking for some advice with a replacement box.
I managed to limp through until 25th with my YV Box when it finally kept losing the will to live!
Just grovelling on the floor to set the new box up was more exercise than these old bones are used to, but I considered it a small price for reliability!
After jumping through all the set-up hoops, I failed at the last one, ...on several occasions today!
Update Software!
It shows the dancing dots for fully 5 minutes, then says "Installing 63% complete", rising over the next 5 minutes to around 78% and then declares it is unable to update, suggesting I contact support.youview.com. which is no help!
If it's helpful, the current info on the box's "update page" shows as follows:-
Last Check: 26 Dec 2024
Last Check Players/Apps: Never
Component: 3.2.108 (b020f4)
Mfg. Software: 72.44.167
Platform Config: 3849
ISP Config: 0
Can anyone offer some wisdom?
As it currently stands, the things I notice which are not as the deceased box are:
Pressing MENU, I can no longer access Settings in the top right corner, I must I must click across the bottom options to access it.
A minor irritation which just indicates that it's evidently using an older version of its firmware than that on my dead box despite being a newer unit!
Not sure if it's related, but having re-set and re-paired my Remote control to be able to access both TV and Box with it, I find that despite being able to switch between the two sources, the remote is severely curtailed in its usefulness, with the TV, just being able to control Volume and precious little else.
I can't say for certain that it ever did much more as I generally don't use the TV Tuner unless in emergency,.. like now!
Hope someone has some pearls of wisdom! 😁

Lordy! that was difficult to capture, had to disconnect most of my spaghetti to get a snap of it!
Why do they make stuff so inaccessible!😁

Hi
The serial details are usually underneath the box. Our device manager has asked to confirm so he can make sure he is looking at the correct box.

Hi Karl, after grovelling on the floor, I can't find a "Serial Number".
The back of the box just has a model Number "DN372T", there is nothing written on either side of the box as far as i can see, just the back.

Hope that helps,

yesterday
Happy New Year Karl!
Continuing this problem now that I have returned home.
Have the team managed to find the update I can't install yet?
I returned yesterday and the box has tried to update today, and presumably whilst I was away 'cos it was active during that time.
here is a couple of shots of the messages I get:
Tried visiting support.youview.com but not helpful.

@fr8ys That sounds ominous! 😯
Hope maybe Karl will be in before New Year as I'm away from Jan 1st to 25th and not sure if it will continue to work if it fails to find an update after a while.
Hoping not to return to a pile of ashes! 🤣

@Steamywee there is no repository unfortunately.
I should also mention something I've just remembered from a few months ago but can't now find, is a thread on here where it appeared the download websites for updates were disabled.
If you can leave updating this until @Karl-TalkTalk is back, he may recall the issue and if it was ever resolved.
If it updates in the meantime all well and good and if so please let us know.

Hi @fr8ys Must have cross posted with yours.
This "New" box is certainly newer than the one I have just had fail, it was supplied by TT after this old box threw a tantrum some time ago, so logically it should be "Updateable".
I didn't use it when received as the old one began behaving again and I couldn't face the crawling about and all the associated malarkey!
I'm somewhat disconcerted that it goes through the motions up to 78% of the update being "installed" before saying it failed and to try again later, so it obviously found something to update to.
As you say, I will just leave it as is for the next few days and hope that it will indeed eventually be successful.
if not, I will try the solution you link to which really should allow it to attain the same level of ability as the older and now defunct box.
Is there some repository from where I could download the required update and install over USB, in the event that these methods fail?
It really goes against the grain to send a fully capable brand new box to landfill for the sake of needing a few lines of code!
Personally, I'm beyond being bothered about "Saving the planet": given the worst that Trump and other potentates can do, it'll likely outlast me. It's the kids of today who will have to deal with our sins.
Oy Veh!

Merry Christmas Keith!
Thanks for that info, but the box (Deceased) was, when working, even up to Christmas was operating normally, with the odd hiccup.
The "New" one, which (given the season) is a "Virgin" box newly removed from its manger!
After the undignified grovelling under the TV to install the wires etc. it now performs the basic functions for which it was designed.
It identifies 177 or so channels.
It show the full "Guide" and is capable of selecting items for recording/reminder.
The "Recordings" tab is currently empty but the function has been tested and works producing viable recordings.
The "Scheduled" tab is populated with items I have selected for later recording.
A major missing item is the tab which on the old machine resided between "Recordings" and "Scheduled" and contained items earmarked for later watching via the various "Catch-up" players, notably excluding the one for ITVX which was never compatible with these boxes.
I suspect this would re-appear, if the errant update could be applied.
I cannot believe that these updates are no longer available, they are after all of negligible size and must be accessible from somewhere!

Which box did you get as a replacement as TalkTalk now supply the TV Hub which is non recirdabkecand has the settings in too right hand corner?
Have you bought a second hand one as it sounds like it has an old software version installed.
These boxes are all now reaching end of life unfortunately and I'd suggest you try a maintenance reset. Details can be found here.
https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/TV-Box-Maintenance-Reset/ta-p/1429347
If that does not work, then it would appear the box is beyond updating and it will fail.
If you don't update it, it may work for a while and will continue to try and update overnight, each night, so it may be worth leaving a couple of nights to see it it does update.

These boxes have not been supported for a few years now. You can either talk to the Loyalty Dept about a streaming box or if you want the capability to record TV, then look at the offerings from Manhattan or Humax, available from Amazon & elsewhere.
