ITVX app not available on TV Hub

I installed the TV Hub 2 months ago and the top menu of Android TV shows the BBC iPlayer and Channels 4 and 5 but no ITVX. It is not possible to download from the Play store as Talktalk say this is a system app that should be displayed automatically. The lower menus show ITVX catch-up programmes and I can watch these and pair with ITVX but this does not allow channel selection or play live programmes. I have changed the hub and reset the replacement to no avail. I do not have an aerial connected so no way to watch ITV. Android devices including a firestick work fine, it is just the hub. Has anyone succeeded in installing the ITVX app?

Not impossible for ITVX, @keithsonic, but not possible for Talktalk.

It's nothing to do with the ISP and everything to do with different devices using ITVX.

Thanks and hopefully someone at TalkTalk will pick up this anomaly - ITVX on my Android phone has a Live button so it is not impossible.

It is nothing to do with TalkTalk @keithsonic .

The app is owned and developed by ITV and it is they who decide which functions work with which device.

There are many variations of the App developed by ITV for the miriad of devices out there.

ITVX app is now available on the TV Hub but is missing the Live TV function that is available on BBC and C4 apps. I gather that this is an app implemetation issue so can't see why TalkTalk should not be able to add this.

It's how ITVX package the app for distribution.

TalkTalk have no control over the apps.

Hi so call me thick, how come I get BBC I-Player through my TT box? Don’t I need an aerial for that? Or is it the licence thing?  How stupid eh!
I get ITVX upstairs on my bedroom telly, have to trundle upstairs for the afternoon 😌 then doze off midway, no doubt 😂

The ITVX (and sometimes the All4) app require a working aerial to set these up. It is so that the hub can verify your region and list local programmes. It is also to stop people who do not live in the UK from gaining access.

If you have no aerial the only suggestion I can make is to take the box to  friend or relatives property and tune the box there. If the ITVX app doesn't show, try turning the box off at the mains for a few minutes then turn it on.

If it still doesn't show you will need to perform a factory reset. The easiest way is from the settings menu. Once set up is concluded including a further retune during the setup mode, the App should appear.

You can then return to your property  and use the box without an aerial.

If the box ever requires a reset you will have to perform a retune as the ITVX app will again disappear. I've not know it happen with the Hub yet, but other devices have had the App disappear after being used for a period as it seems ITV sometimes may do a sweep to check the App is still connected to an aerial.

One point though, in case you are not aware, is that if you use any catch up app to watch Live TV or access the BBC iPlayer at all, including catch up, then you are required by law to have a valid TV Licence.

The link you have provided says: 'On demand apps like NOWNetflix and Amazon Prime Video, on the other hand, are delivered through your broadband connection and don't require a TV aerial'.  ITVX is an on-demand app delivered over broadband so as Talktalk say, an aerial is not required.

You do need a TV aerial to get full functionality, @keithsonic.

@fr8ys is good at explaining why!

I don't have an aerial which is why I am using a TV Hub to watch live tv programmes. The link you sent shows an image of the home screen with ITVX as a featured app at the top but I don't get this.

Hi there @keithsonic, please try getting an aerial as it will limit you on what you can watch. Live programs use the internet so just make sure you able to access it and it shows as connected. Thanks
