I connected my youview box and there is no sound only picture. Can someone help ?

Is the box connected to you router? Direct or via power lines?
If you want a recordable box, there are Freeview play boxes available, plus you can buy YouView boxes from places like CeX or eBay. The BT pro box is the latest recordable box.
The apps on boxes vary and YouView boxes will not support ITVX.

I just did a complete factory reset and during the set up process it said we can't update software so I pressed skip. Then I continued with the set up and still no sound. I contacted talk talk and they said I could subscribe to talk talk4k box. However, it doesn't have record function like the old model. I'm just not sure now because the record function is important to me.

Have you tried the maintenance resets I mentioned? If it's not been used before do a factory reset from the menu.
These will ensure you have the latest software installed and check the hard drive is ok.
TalkTalk have not provided these boxes for nearly 3 years now, so a factory reset is your best option if the box can be saved.

I got it from talk talk but now they're saying that they discontinued this type of model.

It a new talktalk tv plus box, never been used. I'm replacing it because the old one doesn't record properly. I did change the hdmi cable, I checked the volume on the remote, its moving up and down but no sound coming out. I even retuned the channels, I disconnected and reconnected the box. The sound is on stereo, the antenna is switched to out.

Hi,
Which box do you have? Has it previously been working?
I'm assuming you have tried changing the volume on the box using the remote. Has this gone to 100% or is it stating it's in surround sound mode?
Have you tried swapping the HDMI cable or checking its correctly in the box and TV?
In settings, the cog at the top right of the screen, try changing the HDMI output to surround, or back to normal depending on its current setting.
If none of these work try a YouView Maintenance Reset (https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/How-to-find-maintenance-mode/ta-p/1429347)?
Try the Factory Reset keep recording option.
You will then need to reset your personal settings (such as parental controls / Set antenna Out to On in Settings: Picture and Sound / Surround Sound etc.) and also reset your scheduled recordings (might be worth taking a note of future recordings before doing this so you don’t miss any).
If all else fails then try a full factory reset from the settings menu. You will lose your recordings but you may be asked to do this before the support staff look at other alternatives.
