Unable to have fibre broadband but need > 8mbps internet

Hi All,

I've recently moved to an area where there is no access to fibre broadband because the property is not connected to a green box. The property is around 300m from the exchange.

I'm currently getting around 8mbps so I'm guessing that I'm on ADSL.

Is it possible to have this service increased to ADSL2+ given my distance to the exchange?

The Openreach engineer said that the line is good.

Many Thanks,

Wodger

Hi

Try the links in the picture below...

and see what Openreach think they can deliver.

Thanks,

This seems to suggest I'm at the bottom of the theoretical range. Does anyone have any experience with having the connection moved up within that range?

@wodger I don't know if you have been confused by the earlier posts, I certainly have. To get an indicative range of speeds at your address check the link below, feel free to post a screenshot of the results:

Hi,

I don't think I was confused. Here's my output. It seems like I'm towards the bottom of the theoretical range. Unless I'm interpreting this incorrectly.

Many thanks

Looks like you’re right, within the range shown for ADSL2+.

@Michelle-TalkTalk please could you confirm? That report says that ADSL2+ is available, is that the technology I'm currently on?

Thanks

Hi wodger,

Thank you. I've run a test on the line now which is clear and I can see that the sync speed has increased. What speeds are you seeing at the moment?

Thanks

Hi @Michelle-TalkTalk

Thanks for running the diagnostics.

Things are a little better but still not that great.

Is it also possible to have the cap on the upstream altered as I sometimes need to upload large documents for work and this interferes with my workflow.

Many thanks

Hi wodger,

Thank you. Can I just confirm, was this a wired or wireless speed test?

Thanks

That was a wireless test.

I can conduct a wired test if necessary. However, I previously had this same equipment (router and laptop) on a fibre connection in York and was getting 140mbps + over wireless. I'm also very close to the router.

How about my upstream query?

Thanks

Morning,

The upstream sync speed also looks ok. The maximum upstream sync speed for an ADSL connection is 1mb. Did you manage to run any wired speed tests to see how they compared?

Thanks

Message 15 of 33

Thanks,

I didn't run a wired test because of the equipment being the same and my previous experience.

Am I limited to basic ADSL here then? No chance of ADSL2+ and some increased speed?

Thanks for looking at this.

Hi wodger

This is showing as ADSL2+

Line is currently in sync for just over 2 days at 16.3mb.

Thanks

Thanks Debbie,

So are there any things we can try to get the upstream a little higher?

Many thanks,

Wodger

Hi wodger

Thanks for your reply.

Your upload sync speed is showing 1019 kb/s and this is the maximum upload speed for ADSL connections.

Thanks
